Homemade Adventures

One of today's tasks was to make dishwasher detergent. Why make my own? Well, the government decided to regulate dishwasher detergent, and have all the phosphates taken out of it. Unfortunately, phosphates are what remove the white scum build up on your dishes. So I figured out how to make my own. BONUS: it's cheaper than buying detergent!!!!!

Not all my homemade adventures end nicely. I've been trying to make my own gingerale from scratch. The first batch was salty, and I just threw away the second batch today. I reduced the amount of salt in the recipe, but I guess it was needed as a preservative, because this batch had white fuzzy stuff growing on top. Hmmm...not very yummy. (Now I'm wondering if I put in the wrong amount of salt the first time...) Perhaps the third time will be the charm?

  1. You are far more adventurous than I am! My best girlfriend just started making her own jelly and I thought I was brave lending a hand in that!

  4. You are a clever cookie. I buy phosphate free d/washer powder because my waste water is treated by worms and I want to be nice to my little wormy friends.
So I guess I am the opposite?

  5. I make a lot of my own cleaning and beauty products: soft scrub cleanser, toilet bowl cleaner, window cleaner, soap, face cream, dusting spray and a lot more. I love to hear that other people are doing the same.
